The Wild have had three days of rest and should be fully prepared to host the Jackets. They are 3-0 at home and have a favorable match-up that could help them extend that perfect record. All three victories came in regulation time. I am a little surprised by the odds, as I expected Minnesota to be priced shorter. Hopefully, the market isn't signaling a potential trap given the variance involved. Still, I struggle to find convincing arguments against the Wild. They boast an elite power play, while the Jackets have been extremely poor on the penalty kill. Minnesota also holds a clear advantage in goal, with Wallstedt expected to start.
Columbus, meanwhile, faces a demanding back-to-back after yesterday's overtime victory over the Rangers. It was a tight, physical, defense-oriented contest that remained scoreless through the first 60 minutes. Greaves was excellent in goal and proved to be a key factor in their success. However, the backup goaltenders represent a significant downgrade. Talbot is expected to start, and his current level doesn't inspire much confidence. Bowness was highly critical of his team during the post-game interview following the loss to the Panthers. The Jackets responded with a win against the Rangers, but playing again on consecutive nights could leave them lacking energy and freshness.
With home advantage, the superior goaltender, and the stronger special teams, Minnesota looks like a very appealing play. I will back the Wild to win in regulation time.
